“Euskaldunek errugbia maite dute”
Ligako etenaldiarekin bat eginez, DRTko senior mutilak lagunarteko partida jokatuko du asteburu honetan Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Clubaren aurka.

Gizonezkoen lau talde senior ditugu, emakumezkoen taldea, hasiberriak, juniorrak eta txikiak 7 urtetik beherakoak arte. Gure lehen taldeak arrakasta handia izan du urteetan zehar, duela urte batzuk Ingalaterrako errugbiko hirugarren mailara iritsiz. Euskal Herriko biran parte hartzen duten jokalariak, neurri handi batean, gure talde sozialak diren 3. eta 4. taldetik datoz. Macclesfield RFC adin eta trebetasun guztiak artatzen ditu, gizonak eta emakumeak. Hari nagusia errugbiko kirolarekiko maitasuna da.
Zenbat jokalari daude klubean gaur egun?
120 kide heldu inguru ditugu, eta gutxi gorabehera 300 jokalari junior eta txiki ditugu.
Osasun-egoerak eragina izan du guztiontzat. Zuen kasuan, Macclefielden, nola eragin dizue txapelketari eta klub gisa?
Munduko kirol-talde guztietan bezala, COVID-19ak eragin negatiboa izan zuen. Ezin izan genuen errugbian jokatu 18 hilabete baino gehiagoz, baina talde-espirituari eutsi genion jarduera alternatiboen bidez, lehiaketak on line eginez, bizikletaz ibiliz, garagardoa dastatuz eta Eguberrietako afari bat eginez. Oso pozik gaude berriz jokatzeaz, baina orain zailagoa da asteburuan talde osoak ateratzea. Badirudi pandemiak jokalari batzuk jokalekutik urrundu dituela. Egoera hori Ingalaterra osoa ari da orokortzen.
Datorren larunbatean lagunarteko partida jokatuko da, zergatik etorri zarete Euskadira?
Urte askotan birak antolatu ditugu apirilean. Errugbia eta gauza erakargarriak dituen leku baten bila gabiltza. Adibidez, lehenago Munich, Atenas, Utrecht edo Jersey bezalako lekuak bisitatu ditugu. Euskaldunek errugbia maite dute eta janari ona eta edaria ere maite dituzte. 2018ko Europako Txapeldunen Kopako finalerako Bilbo bisitatzeko aukera izan nuen. Jon Elguezabalekin harremanetan jarri ginen eta oso modu atseginean esperientzia bikaina izatea espero duguna antolatzen lagundu zigun.
Zer espero duzue bidaia honetatik?
Durango Rugby Taldearekin errugbi partida ona izatea eta hirugarren denboraz gozatzea espero dugu. Bilbon geratuko gara turismo pixka bat egiteko aukera emango digulako. Ziur nago batzuek Guggenheim bisitatuko dutela, eta, gainera, alde zaharra leku interesgarria da ordu batzuk pasatzeko. Ziur pintxo taberna batzuk ere bisitatuko ditugula. Asteburuan bakarrik gaude bisitan, baina ahalik eta denbora gehien aprobetxatu nahi dugu gozatzeko.

Coinciding with the league break, the DRT senior men will play a friendly match against Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Club this weekend.
Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Club is an English set in the county of Cheshire. We have chatted with Rupert Dixon, one of the leaders who will accompany the expedition. The ball will start rolling on Saturday at 12:00, in Arripausueta.
Talk to us about your team.
Macclesfield RFC is a community rugby club, based in the town of Macclesfield, just south of Manchester in NW England. We have 4 adult mens teams, 1 womens team, colts, junior and minis down to under 7s. Our first team have been very successful over the years, reaching the third tier of English rugby a few years ago. The players joining the tour to the Basque Country are largely taken from the 3rd and 4th team, which is our social teams. Macclesfield RFC cater for all ages, and abilities, male and female. The common thread is a love for the sport of rugby.
At the moment, how many players are part of the club?
We have around 120 adult playing members, plus a large number of non-playing members. In addition we have approximately 300 junior and mini members.
The health situation (covid-19) is something that has taken its toll on all of us, in your case at Macclesfield, how has it affected you in terms of the competition and as a club?
Like all sports teams across the globe, COVID had a big effect. For the Macclesfield 4ths, we were unable to play rugby for over 18 months. We maintained the team spirit through alternative activities, including on-line quizzes, bike rides, beer tasting. Even a Christmas dinner. We are very happy to be back playing again, but have found it has become more challenging to get full teams out on Saturday. It seems the pandemic has lead to some players drifting away from the game. The same is being experienced across England.
Next Saturday a friendly match will be played, what is the reason for your visit to Euskadi?
For many years we have arrange tour in April. We look for somewhere that has both rugby and other attractions. As examples, we have previously visited such places as Munich, Athens, Utrecht, Jersey… We all know the Basques love their rugby and they also love good food and drink too. I personally visited Bilbao for the 2018 European Champions Cup Final, so know what a great part of the world this is. As such, following a few emails enquiries, we make contact with Jon Elguezabal and he has very kindly helped us organise what we hope will be an excellent tour
What do you expect from this trip? Apart from this game, what else do you have planned?
We hope to have a good game of rugby with the Durango team on Saturday, and to equally enjoy some after-match festivities. We are staying in Bilboa, so this will give the team an opportunity for a bit of tourism too. I am sure a few will visit the Guggenheim, plus the old town looks an interesting place to spend a few hours. I am sure an few pintxos bars will be visited too. We are only visiting for a weekend but we aim to pack a lot in!

Macclesfield Rugby Union Football Club es un conjunto inglés del condado de Cheshire. Hemos charlado con Rupert Dixon, uno de los responsables que acompañará a la expedición. El balón echará a rodar el sábado a las 12.00 horas, en Arripausueta.
Háblanos un poco de vuestro club.
Tenemos cuatros equipos masculinos senior, un equipo femenino, principiantes, junior y minis hasta menores de 7 años. Nuestro primer equipo ha tenido mucho éxito a lo largo de los años alcanzando el tercer nivel del rugby inglés hace unos años. Los jugadores que se incorporan a la gira por el País Vasco proceden en gran medida del 3º y 4º equipo, que son nuestros equipos sociales. Macclesfield RFC atiende a todas las edades y habilidades, hombres y mujeres. El hilo conductor es el amor por el deporte del rugby.
¿En la actualidad cuantos jugadores y jugadoras son parte del club?
Tenemos alrededor de 120 miembros adultos que juegan y contamos con aproximadamente 300 jugadores junior y mini.
La situación sanitaria es algo que nos ha pasado factura a todos. En vuestro caso en Macclefield, ¿cómo os ha afectado en cuanto a la competición y como club?
Como en todos los equipos deportivos del mundo, el COVID tuvo un efecto negativo. No pudimos jugar al rugby durante más de 18 meses, pero mantuvimos el espíritu de equipo a través de actividades alternativas, incluyendo concursos on line, paseos en bicicleta, degustación de cerveza e incluso una cena de Navidad. Estamos muy contentos de volver a jugar, pero ahora es más difícil sacar los equipos completos el fin de semana. Parece que la pandemia ha alejado a algunos jugadores del terreno de juego. Esta situación está siendo generalizada toda Inglaterra.
El próximo sábado se jugará un partido amistoso, ¿a qué se debe vuestra visita a Euskadi?
Durante muchos años hemos organizado giras en abril. Buscamos un lugar que tenga rugby y otras atracciones. A modo de ejemplo, hemos visitado anteriormente lugares como Múnich, Atenas, Utrecht o Jersey. Los vascos aman el rugby y también les encanta la buena comida y la bebida. Tuve la oportunidad de visitar Bilbao para la final de la Copa de Campeones de Europa de 2018. Nos pusimos en contacto con Jon Elguezabal y muy amablemente nos ayudó a organizar lo que esperamos sea una excelente experiencia.
¿Qué esperáis de este viaje?
Esperamos tener un buen partido de rugby con Durango Rurgby Taldea e igualmente disfrutar del tercer tiempo. Nos quedamos en Bilbao por lo nos dará la oportunidad de hacer un poco de turismo también. Estoy seguro de que algunos visitarán el Guggenheim, además el casco viejo parece un lugar interesante para pasar unas horas. Seguro que también se visitarán algunos bares de pintxos. Solamente estamos de visita el fin de semana, pero queremos aprovechar al máximo el tiempo para disfrutar.
